Yoga in Wonderland ~ Pose 3 ~ The fairytale behind Uttanasana 💖

Welcome, welcome, welcome back to Yoga in Wonderland!

This week’s magic pose is, Uttanasana: Standing Forward Fold!

I wonder what adventures await me in this pose! Let’s journey over to our Wonderland and see what magic is in store for Princess Rainbow as she too takes this pose for a spin..

Once upon a time, lived a Princess who shined and sparkled with such a power, her parents named her, Rainbow. Princess Rainbow lived in a cottage upon Wonderland Meadows, and she’s just began a new trend for princesses… Yoga!

“I wonder and I wonder some more…. What yoga pose should I focus on this week? Ahh, why of course, Uttanasana!”

Princess Rainbow leaped out of bed with a glow in her step and a glimmer in her eye. Birds trilled outside her window, as if they knew the princess had just awoken! Princess Rainbow bent her body forward in the first pose of the day, and as she let gravity pull her arms down, she began to relax more and more.

“I surrender, Earth… I surrender, I surrender.” Princess Rainbow cooed in her little voice, and as she spoke these words, a magic spell had been cast, and her whole body began to spin and spin and spin!

Rainbow’s body swirled through the air into another dimension, taking the princess for quite a journey through every color of the rainbow, splashing and spiraling right before her eyes.

“I do wonder where I am!” Rainbow shouted to this colorful dimension, but all at once Rainbow received an answer, yet instead of the answer coming to her as a voice, a feeling arose within her.

“I am balanced, calm, and I go with the flow…” Rainbow giggled to herself, having no idea what had just come over her and having no clue where she even was!

It was as if she vanished from this place just as soon as she had entered, and with a soft landing upon her wood floor, safely back in her room, Rainbow was back in her forward fold, feeling much much more balanced than before. For it felt as if her mind had been cleared of dark rain clouds and her body was lighter than ever before.. Rainbow bounced her way back upright to look over her shoulder to see if a weight had been taken off her back!

“Oh, silly me! I had no weight on my back… But still I feel so much lighter.. so refreshed!” Rainbow closed her eyes and relished in such a feeling.

‘It was the most efficacious pose’, Rainbow thought to herself.

Uttanasana brings a message of balance, peace, and acceptance. As we fold over into the pose, like Rainbow, we can let gravity take over and pull us closer and closer to Earth, until we can surrender all of our problems away. Release, release, release and let Wonderland show you the way.

Try the act of surrendering on one of your most magical dreams! Do you wish to be an actress, a dancer, or whatever it may be, write it down in your journal and feel gratitude for it as if you already have it! Now as you go through your week with your dream surrendered (no doubting either!) watch for signs from your wonderland, for the universe will now start telling you which steps to take next. Be aware and be excited, for you are on your way to Wonderland!
